So I have to say, I really don't get people who are all "OMG VALENTINE'S DAY SUCKS!!!" and complain about it all the time. I really don't. In fact, I probably wouldn't have realised that today was Valentine's Day had it not been for everyone on my LJ flist going on about it sucking so much.
I think it's just silly, because going off about how much you hate Valentine's basically tattoos "BITTER" on your forehead. Honestly, think about it- you may say it's silly now and that you'll never like it, but if you were actually in a relationship, wouldn't you probably celebrate it anyway? You probably don't hate the holiday itself; you're complaining about the fact that you don't have anyone to be with.
And then there are those who will go on about how it's such a Hallmark holiday. Okay, yeah, it sort of is, and all the flowers and hearts and what-not is rather cheesy. But come on, we have holidays for EVERYTHING nowadays. I'm 99% sure that there's a National Jelly Bean Day. If there's a National Jelly Bean Day, why not a day to celebrate love, in all its shapes and forms? The only difference is that Hallmark probably makes more money off of Valentine's than it does Jelly Bean Day.
I mean, look at Mother's Day! Nobody complains about Mother's Day being a Hallmark holiday! And yet, same idea. You shouldn't need a single day in the year to stop and appreciate your mother, just like if you're in love, you shouldn't need a single day to stop and celebrate that. We just choose to have a particular day during the year to do so, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
So to those of you who are complaining about today: get over it and cut your kvetching. You're not the sole single person today, and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that, just as much as there's nothing wrong with being a couple and celebrating Valentine's Day. No, it's not fun feeling like everyone else is in love and you aren't, but you know what? Everyone else will be in love tomorrow, too; so why take out all your angst on today?
That being said, I wish I'd at least gotten some flowers or something.

PS: Valentine's Day is the holiday. V-Day, however, is celebrated on Valentine's Day, but it is a movement to stop violence against women, and it's rather important. You can find out more at
this website (which has the word "vagina" plastered on it in big letters, haha).
Wanted to point that out. Yeah yeah, I know, people have probably been shortening "Valentine's Day" to "V-Day" for ages before this movement, but it's pretty important to me, so it irrationally bothers me when people talk about "V-Day" and don't mean this.
